Welcome to the Media Lab! My name is Kathy Bouman and known around campus as Mrs. Bouman. I am excited and honored to be at Ibarra and to work in our new Media Lab. I wholeheartedly believe in the importance of technology integration for today's students. The students are a joy to work with and love to learn about technology.

The four C's of 21st century skills:

  3. Collaboration
  4. Communication

Technology in the classroom benefits:

  • Prepares students for the 21st century
  • Engages students/excited about their learning
  • Digital Citizenship Skills/Responsibility
  • Students have up-tp-date information

Listed below are some of the areas of technology we will work on in our lab:

  • Primary grades use various educational sites to augment areas of literacy and math
  • Internet Safety/Digital Citizenship
  • Keyboarding
  • Google for Education
  • Graphic Design
  • Videography/Photography
    • camera technique, filming, and editing
  • Digital Storytelling
  • Research
  • Coding

Why is learning to code important?

As of last December, 250,000 classrooms had participated in Hour of Code—and with good reason. Teaching coding develops crucial computer literacy skills. Beyond that, though, many teachers are using it to enhance fundamental math, science, and literacy instruction. Why? Coding teaches kids to think in sequence and break down problems. Students will use technology skills to enhance learning and productivity at their grade level and to promote creativity in all areas of their lives.
